Military Action

Military Action is possibly one way the US can improve its standing in the world. Please add your Military Action Solution and/or Vote for any/all of these offered below:

Military Action Portion of President Bush's January 10 Proposal
These bullets courtesy of BBC's At-a-glance: New strategy for Iraq:
  • The US government is committing 21,500 extra troops to Iraq.
  • Most of them will be deployed in the capital, Baghdad, eventually doubling US presence there. The first brigade will be sent on 15 January, the next on 15 February and additional brigades will be deployed every 30 days to reach the total of five.
  • The 17,500 troops in Baghdad will act in support of Iraqi troops and have the authority to clear and secure any neighbourhood.
  • Four thousand marines are to be sent to Anbar province, described by Mr Bush as an al-Qaeda base.
  • More US advisers are to be embedded with Iraqi forces.

Withdraw military forces from the middle east and close bases there.
America's security is threatened by the misuse of our military forces, which have been deployed to sovereign territories of people with whom we do not share a common culture, belief system or language. Our security would be enhanced by eliminating the military intervention which is one of the major root causes inflaming passions against the United States. Military force would be kept in the US similar to the way China keeps its forces at home. There would be strict limits on intervention forbidding any intervention for economic reasons.

CONCOMITANT NATO ACTION
An action plan for the integration of Russia into Nato and at the same time a tactical bombing of Iran's known nuclear sites including the Bushehr Nuclear Plant by NATO. This action would significantly hamper if not cripple Iranian nuclear ambitions. Such action would give Russia a significant incentive to accept the destruction of a significant investment in Iran. China would not dare intervene and Israel would not be left to incur the wrath of reprisal if it attacked on its own.

My solution is to utilize Iraqi Army for ALL direct combat operations in order to build unit/national loyalty and to expedite the formation of the IA's NCO and officer corps.
Summary Description: My idea, although trite and seemingly overplayed, has not been completed. We must study the American military training regimen if we are to accurately portray the picture of the current Iraqi Army. If we look at the forging of an American sergeant, we see that his training after four years would place him in command of a fire team (3-4 soldiers). He would lead a squad at the 5-6 year mark. If we assume that all Iraqi soldiers have received an American training regimen, and are on the NCO track, and we assume that the Army has been totally de-Bathified, then we must conclude that the IA is very poorly trained indeed (if only through inexperience). It effectively means that, after nearly four years of occupation, we have yet to produce ONE squad leader who is on par with his American counterpart, never mind a decent platoon leader, first sergeant, or command sergeant major. The backbone of their Army would be described as cartilaginous at best. The best way to accelerate inexperience is via a continual baptism of fire: exposure to direct combat. The second, and some would say more pressing, dilemma is that the 'National' Iraqi Army has 'local' loyalty. This devolves into support for death squads and militia agendas. In this regard, the US military should study a very basic tenet of human nature, in fact, one that it has taught to its officers and NCOs. To wit: that a soldier under fire does not think of the flag, and of ideals of freedom or the ever fleeting concept of national reconciliation. He thinks quite clearly about his brother in arms. This occasionally manifests itself as acts of selfless service and undaunted courage. But when stripped bare it usually resolves to not letting his buddy down. This mutual respect among soldiers builds unit cohesion and unit loyalty. America can then leverage this unit loyalty for national aims. Goal: The methods of this endeavor are twofold. One would be to create, build and leverage unit loyalty for national aims. The second is to accelerate the leadership training of the IA. These two aims would be accomplished through constant exposure of IA units to direct combat action. The ultimate goal would be to free the US Army from the civil conflict, and enable them to focus on other national objectives: such as securing the oil network and protecting and interdicting border crossings and eventually redeployment. Method: Currently the Iraqi army is dominated by men more loyal to sects and tribes than they are their fellow countrymen. If we assume that we cannot leave until the country is secure and unified, then this must change. Ultimately, loyalty to tribe, sheik, and religious sect must be transferred into national loyalty. One proven method is to build unit loyalty. Unit loyalty is built through accepted and enforced standards, accountability to one's fellow soldier, and in this specific case, the common experience of a firefight. Cohesion, unity of command and fealty to nation must be forged through direct combat action. The corollary to this of course is to ease up on American "assistance." We should be there to prevent tactical failure and to teach proper logistics. With regard to the leadership training, we should augment our current regimen with 'US style leadership training' An Iraqi that has completed the course of instruction should be no different tactically than his US counterpart. And continual exposure to ALL local combat should bring his lack of experience in line with the competence of his American brethren.

Pass Legislation Modeled After the U.N. Criteria of Legitimacy for the Use of Force:
1. Seriousness Of The Threat: Is it sufficiently clear and serious to warrant military force? 2. Proper Purpose: The prime intention must be to halt or avert the threat, whatever motives are involved. 3. Last Resort: Has every non-military option for meeting the threat been considered? 4. Proportional Means: The scale, duration, and intensity of the proposed action must be the minimum necessary. 5. The Balance of Consequences: There must be reasonable prospects of success; force cannot be justified if it is likely to make matters worse.

LET'S GET OUT OF FOREIGN NATIONS WHERE WE ARE NOT WANTED.
It is clear that Mr. Bush has gotten us into something that is not possible to get out of AND save face. There is no way out as a winner. So what's wrong with saying we have not been and cannot be successful? Victory is not going to happen here. Let's be grownups, properly arrange our priorities, and try to save the lives of our service people. Just because Mr. Bush doesn't want a "failure" in Iraq doesn't mean admitting failure is a bad move.

Pull all troops in Iraq back to the border immediately, secure the Iraqi border, let the factions fight it out and butt out.
If we pull our troops back to the border of Iraq and secure the border on all sides we can allow the Iraqi's to fight it out, which is what there going to do anyway and it's their country, NOT OURS, so they need to decide what type of government they want. If they don't want Democracy so be it. You cannot force Democracy down someone's throat or at the end of a gun. Begin rebuilding our military here at home, bring home the soldiers who are on their second and third and some their fourth tours. Make the national guard strictly for our Homeland use, not to fight wars overseas. Put additional troops in Afghanistan. Secure all of our American Borders and utilize our national guard, in the U.S. to secure the border here. That will hopefully quell a good many of the future attacks we can expect in this country, thanks to Bush/Cheney. And finally Impeach Bush and Cheney immediately! There are not fit to govern. Or command our military. ,

Pull out of Iraq so that a pan-Arab war between our enemies, led by Iran & Saudi Arabia, breaks out.
If we pull out of Iraq our enemies in the Sunni and Shiite sects will try to dominate each other. The Iranians will support the Shiites. Moqtada al-Sadr is a Shiite but will pursue his own goals. The Sunni minority will be supported by Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and others. Al Qaeda, a Sunni group, will pursue their own agenda, too. Saudi Arabia is our biggest false friend. The money they make from oil revenues fund Wahhabi Islam in extremist mosques around the world, especially in USA, UK and Europe. A pan-Arab war will force the Iranians and Saudis into an oil price war. They will compete to lower prices in order to fund their war. Jihadists will be fighting each other instead of killing Westerners. Sunni and Shiite have battled for Arab supremacy for the last 1400 years since the death of Muhammad. Pulling out of Iraq was a well-intentioned mistake that turned into a catastrophe. A War between Saudi Arabia and Iran is in USA's best interest. Pull of Iraq, NOW, and let them sort it out.

LEARN FROM PAST MILITARY MISTAKES IN VIETNAM AND NOW IRAQ
USA under President Johnson created gulf of tonkin incident and intervened in Vietnam.Reason to prevent fall of entire south east asia into communism.today american dollar is morre in demand in vietnam and american presence may be indirectly welcomed by vietnamese to counter chinese behemoth which has invaded them only about 15 years back to "teach lesson".The DOLLAR has done what NAPALM could not do. When the whole world sympathised with Bush when he stood alone at ground zero immeditely after 9/11 in 2001, today american forces are facing an insurgency in Iraq AND IT IS ALMOST ALONE HERE.WHY?Because you wanted to remove a leader who enforced MODERNITY AND UNITY IN IRAQ ofcourse ruthlessly.SADDAM killed shias, gassed kurds but also ensured NO VEILS, NO BEARDS AND SKULL CAPS, NO BREAST BEATING DURING RAMZAN BY SHIAS AND all those symbols which today USA wants desperately wants MUSLIM UMMA to emulate. If it is for Iraqui oil was military solution the option or DOLLAR THE OPTION? today afghan President is crying for more military hardware and troops tio fight rresurgent taliban but USA is tyed down in iraq. What went wrong? USA should analyse and learn Military lessons. today IRAN vehemently denies it has nuclear ambitions.Security council has voted against these ambitions. But being memeber of NPT it is entitled to civilian nuclear technology. Is Military option the need or DOLLAR will do the trick ?Is iran has need for its own SECURITY FROM THE MILITARY MIGHT OF usa?conventional arms are no use. Nuclear weapons and other WMDs are becoming solutions for these nations which fear USA.I will even say chavez may be a problem for USA.why? If it is oil, then forcibly usurping the oil from venezula, iraq etc are viable or DOLLAR WILL DO THE TRICK?Can USA ignore the rhetoric of ahmadjnaid, chavez?I think President roosevel who said TALK SOFTLY BUT CARRY THE BIG STICK.USA CARRIES THE BIG STICK but it must know how to talk SOFTLY WITH DOLLARS. usa IS THE ONLY NATION WHICH CAN SOLVE WORLDS PROBLEMS OF POVERTY AND HUNGER AND DISCEASES.CHINA IS SOLVING THE HUNGER OF WORLD FOR ENTRTAINMENT.USA MUST REFOCUSS ON DOLLAR TO SOLVE WORLDS OTHER NEEDS. Military action only as “the last resort” against the rogue states
The US should use Military action only as “the last resort” against the “rogue” states which breed and nurture global terrorism. But certainly not to find some imaginary WMDs and destroy a nation in return! The use of “Hard Power” is justified in cases like Afghanistan, or in certain African nations where Islamic fundamentalists are engaged into “ethnic cleansing” like Sudan (Darfur). Nevertheless, the US should always take the UN into confidence before embarking on any such military move and should learn to respect the international laws.

New Deployment Strategy - reduce International Troop levels
Develop a 5 year plan that would remove our military forces from Korea and Europe. These troops should be relocated ( and probably reduced ) to the United States where they could continue to train but also be used in civilian projects/emergencies (e.g. Help provide port security & nuclear reactor security, Katrina clean-up, border security, forestry projects in our National Forests and Parks, work on assisting the clean-up of our rivers, lakes and streams, etc., et. al.). This plan should also work to reduce/eliminate the total number of troops based in foreign countries. The fundamental premise in this is for the U.S. to stop being the world's policeman, reduce the cost of our military and focus our energies and resources on upgrading it's weapons requirements and technologies with greater focus on U.S. internal security skills/capabilities. Allow the countries where we have had troops based to develop and implement their own individual strategies and programs for their own country and/or region using their indigenous population/personnel.

Once the third world goes, our laborers will be employed. With Europe gone, the slide of the dollar against the euro will halt. Nobody will keep pestering us about Kyoto. With the middle east gone, we will have a complete monopoly over oil production. All our external debt will also vanish. In a few centuries the radiation levels reach a safe level and we can then proceed to re-colonise the world, renaming whole continents as we go.

Move our troops currently in Iraq to bases built in the Kurdish regions. Leverage our presence there and initiate a strong diplomacy push to prevent Turkey from attacking the Kurds. Pipe oil from the Kurdish area through Turkey. Foster a democratic and prosperous region in the Kurdish areas. Establish a 5-mile demilitarized zone separating the Shiites from the Sunnis in Iraq. Stop training them and giving them weapons. Allow both sides to police their own side of the de-militarized neutral border. Allow both sides to have their own governments with which we can work with separately. These two populations are separating naturally. By helping them speed this up, we can reduce the bloodshed

A Pragmatic Approach to the Iraq Situation
1. Immediately begin a major continuous diplomatic effort with moderate Arab countries friendly to us, working diligently toward a diplomatic solution within the framework and with the support of the world community – 2. Move our soldiers to bases outside of the insurgency area and closer to secured areas– 3. If and as necessary, move the Iraqi center of government from the least secure to a more secure area, for instance the Iraqi north – 4. Provide military help from those bases to the Iraqi Military only in instances where it will be of obvious benefit and high success of probability. Air and logistical support being the primary support choices– 5. Arm whatever group of Iraqis we feel are our allies using monies paid to Iraq for production options on in-ground oil reserves – 6. Turn this mess over to the Iraqis and let them fight the insurgency down to a nub if they wish, or go belly up if they don’t wish – 7. Whatever the outcome, use our presence in Iraq to prevent incursions from Iran and Syria, and to maintain stability in areas like the Kurdish north -– 8. Any rebuilding or economic aid should be also in the form of purchased in ground production options for Iraqi oil. Iraq should be funding and fighting for this effort, not America – 9. Remain in Iraq until the country stabilizes and we have secured the oil resources we have purchased. Even Britain paid us back for our efforts on their behalf during World War II - we should expect no less from Iraq. Immediate withdrawal is just not a realistic option as the resulting regional power vacuum will force a disastrous outcome for long term U.S. and Western interests. 10. And if possible, impeach or otherwise remove from public (dis)service the fools that got us into this mess

Allow Undocumented/Illegal Immigrants to gain a quicker road to citizenship through temporary military service.
The below statement is by no means endorsing the current war in Iraq, which is a war brought about by reckless leadership. The precious human lives and courage found in our military are being grossly misused by faulty leadership in this country. SOLUTION The military is stretched to the limits and exhausted. We also have a continuance of illegal immigration and undocumented immigrants, who often involve those just wanting to find work and gain a better quality of life. I feel that for those who want to stay in this country and gain citizenship/longterm living allowance; they should have one or more more members enlist in the military to serve this country. Working in the low-paying, often hard manual labor jobs that some people say that Americans don't want ( a copout answer)does not equal to serving in the military when it comes to how much one appreciates this country and is willing to do whatever he/she can do to protect it and honor it. A person born here already has the right to be here, but others who come here are charged with earning that right. The better way to earn this right and express loyalty is through military service. To our American citizens, having illegal/undocumented immigrants willing to do these things will provide overwhelming evidence of their committment to honoring the benefits that this country offers. It will also help to establish stronger relationships amongst citizens and non-citizens in the country, and between this country and the immigrant's country of origin, mainly from South/Latin America. If an illegal/undocumented immigrant is injured or is killed in the line of duty, then they and their families should be given benefits like American citizens. These benefits, however, should be the result of America and the immigrant's country of origin contributing together towards any financial/supportive rights that are similar to what Americans receive in the same situation. This responsibility shouldn't just be on America's shoulders. So, this solution would involve a partnership between America and the countries of origin of the illegal/undocumented immigrants (which will involve South/Latin America in most cases) for implementation. The time span for service in the military should be 5 years. The branches of the military that these individuals would join are the army, marines, airforce, and navy. The national guard would not be included.

Admitting our own flawed policies and ask for the worlds forgiveness. Our aim is a respectable one (Peace on Earth) and should be broadcast to the world. This is really a no brainer. Take out the 150,000 troops and insert 150,000 members of Chambers of Commerces from all around the US. Pay them what we are currently paying the Halliburton truck drivers. Give them each loan making authority up to say $1 million. They are charged with establishing small businesses all across Iraq. Give these Chamber folks a bonus of say, $50,000 for each business they set up and another $50,000 if it is still viable 4 years from now. Gotta cost WAY less than a war, and gives the Iraqis something worthwhile. Democracy will follow.

The debacle in Iraq has sapped some of the strength from our armed forces. We have to find a way to get out of Iraq so that we can resupply our military . The sacrifices our military have endured in arms and men for securing the peace in the Persian Gulf has proved too taxing. While our "War on Terror" will continue to be a priority, we must disregard the ignorant notion of a "leaner military" by at least making our military as strong as it was pre-war.
